The collection consists of correspondence written by Dodson, 1921-1922, with David Sweets of the Christian Observer requesting that the periodical publish a sermon delivered by John L. Girardeau in May, 1860; and a handwritten sermon by Dodson. The sermon was delivered at First Presbyterian Church (Columbia, S.C.), on the occasion of the ordination of Rev. F.P. Mullally, and the installation of Rev. J.H. Thornwell, co-pastors of the church.
